True to its character, the month of October proved to be a damp squib for the stock market. The Indices moved nowhere for the whole month, finishing at the same level where it started. And it gave a scare of sorts to lot of Technical Analysts on the last day(29th October) when in broke their so called critical levels of 5950-5960 in Nifty and 19865 in Sensex intraday. But then with the regular index managers, it was propped up back to 6000 and 20000 - to sooth their nerves for weekly/monthly charts. While the indices have fallen just 5% from their recent tops, so many stock have fallen anywhere between 10% and 20%, as is always the case. The Huge volume in the F&O segment along with the recent volatility suggests that's market is likely to take a directional movement soon. IMO, there is more likelihood of being downside than upside. I am waiting for this correction for the last 3-4 months but that's is stock market for you. It will choose its own time to move where it wants to move. Lets be prepared for such move to pick good stocks and build our Portfolio for long term wealth creation. Best of Luck!!!!!

LONG TIME NO SEE!!!!

Hai friends, it has been long time since I wrote in my blog. The Indian stock market is going from strength to strength, atleast Indexwise, much again my expectation of a good correction from 5400-5500(Nifty) levels to 5000 levels. but many of my market friends say that they are not able to make money as most of the shares in their portfolio are not moving up. So it is only the FII money which is propelling the index to newer heights. Most of the problems in the western world are still far from being resolved with TIME being the only healer. But the outlook for India in particular, among emerging markets, is quite positive inspite of all its inherent problems. I am happy that the stocks I have been recommending are doing well, like Spicejet, INOX Leisure, Cairn India and IFCI to name a few. I am still convinced that there will be a sharp correction of 300-400 points in Nifty and 1000-1200 points in Sensex sometime soon but when and from which level is really difficult to predict. Lets wait and see!!!

SHORT TERM EXCITEMENT ON OMCs

Dear Friends,

It has been a long time since I posted an article in my blog. The sudden change in my job and return to India from Saudi Arabia and other committments at home kept me busy.
Like I have written in my last article dated 27th March, the Indices are going nowhere but 5-7% up and down for the past 9 months. Of course individual stock stories are playing out nicely either on corporate/sector developments or on manipulation.

Last week, the UPA Govt mustered all its courage to announce a full decontrol on petrol and a partial decontrol on diesel. Kerosene and LPG prices were hiked but they will continue to be under Govt control.And predictably,the famous media channels and their anchors/analysts gave too much hype about the same. on top of their euphoric voices, they mislead the Investors by saying that any reduction in Global oil prices will be beneficial to them. I fail to understand how???

Let us first analyse the issue clearly:

1. The decontrol is NOT total and Govt has retained the right to intervene anytime whenever it feels that the global oil prices have gone up TOO HIGH(which is highly subjective)

2. While the OMCs(OIL MARKETING COMPANIES) should reduce the selling prices when there is a fall in crude prices, they can not increase them beyond a level due to various factors like Govt intervention, inflation and others.

3. The increase in prices or the partial decontrol only changes the cash flow position of the OMCs and not the profitability. Previously the shortfall in prices were met by the Govt as OIL BONDS which these companies were showing as revenue. Now they are replaced by market prices. At the most, they will have some savings in their interest and administrative costs. Thats all.

So I dont understand, how these companies will be benefitted when there is a fall in global crude prices. Of course, any reform process will have a long term benefit of reducing the Budget deficit and so looked upon as positive by long term investors, be it FIIs or others. For the short term a 10-12% rise in the stock prices,more than reflect the positive sentiments, which has already happened in the last couple of days. So be causious of buying at these levels as the global markets are sinking.

CONSOLIDATION WITH DOWNWARD BIAS

This current phenomenon in Indian Stock Market is very strange. Contrary to the general saying that " THE SUM OF PARTS IS EQUAL TO THE TOTAL(IN SOME CASES MORE THAN THE TOTAL)", the stock market as a whole appears to be going up but many sectors/
stocks are trading lower. Just a simple example. The Sensex on 30th September 2009 was at 16500 and the NIFTY around 5000.Today after 6 months, the SENSEX is just trading 6% more than that and the NIFTY also at 6% more. But so many sectors like Sugar,Brokerage,Real estate & Infra have fallen more than 10-20% during this 6 months. Only Banking,IT and Auto sectors are showing some upside.

With the global economies still under tremendous pressure on growth and huge deficits to tackle, it would not be anytime soon that the markets will see new heights. So play safe and holdback atlest 40% of your portfolio as cash to deploy in the second half of the year when SENSEX can come down to 15000 and NIFTY to 4500 levels.

Regarding specific stocks, I continue to recommend SPICEJET with a revised target of 90-100 in 12 months. My new recommendations are INOX Leisure and CAIRN India with an upside potential of 30-40% in the next 12-18 months.

GOD SAVE AMERICA! IT IS BERNANKE AGAIN!!!!

It is not a surprise that President Obama supported him for a second term because he does not have an alternative. Atleast for overseeing the mess he has created and the after effects it is going to create, Ben Bernanke should be in office. Otherwise he may easily be let off the hook when the real effects are felt after a couple of years.
The Unemployment rate is steady close to 10%, the commercial real estate still under huge pressure, the bank closures happening at a steady pace(140 for thefull year 2009 from the 115 when I last wrote in October2009)and 10 for January 2010, the end of the tunnel is still far away before lights can be seen.

The global stock markets had a jolt last 10 days to the unsustainable rally of the last 10 months. Very few market participants were prepared for this and naturally they are caught again on the wrong foot. Now they search for reasons for this fall and point fingers to China' curb on bank lending, cooling of commodity prices and selling by hot heeled FIIs. In my humble opinion, the only reason should be valuations. It will be foolish to expect shares to keep going up after a run of this magnitude in 8-9 months.

I feel, the Auto and Oil Marketing companies have completed their upmove and so provide good opportunities on the short side whenever they go up 10-15% from the current levels(close to their recent peaks). I am happy to note that my recommendation of SPICEJET at 37 in October 2009 has done well. Hold on to it and add more whenever it falls to 48-50 levels.

STOCK MARKETS AND OCTOBER

So it is proved once again that the month of October is not good for Stock markets. Over the past 80 years, starting from 1929, the month of October is always a bad omen for stock markets world over barring few exceptions.Remember how bullish/positive most of the market participants were just 10 days ago and see how things have changed dramatically. While the uptrend or so called strength during the last 2 months was labored and with declining volumes, the fall is sharp and swift to say the least. Like the famous words in U.S nowadays(TOO BIG TO FAIL) we are now hearing lot of voices now which say - IT WAS EXPECTED AND/OR I SAID SO. But as far as I know only very few stayed away for buying at 5000-5100 levels(nifty)even after the INDEX doubled in less than 7 months saying that every correction is a buying opportunity and lot of money is waiting in the sidelines to support the market at lower levels.

On the macro side, the closure of small regional banks in U.S is happening faster than the H1N1 deaths as the number has gone upto 115 as of yesterday(30/10/2009)from less than 100 at the start of the month(as mentioned in my article dated 2/10/2009).

Federal regulators close 9 banks, mostly in West; marks 115 US bank failures this year

And as per the Federal Reserve's own statement another 330 banks are in the watchlist.

The telecom sector was the worst performer last month in India, with the market leader BHARTI AIRTEL losing 1/3rd of its market cap. Amongst many others, one of our knowledgeable market analyst Mr.Ramesh Damani, candidly recommended short in telecom and long in Airways as a contrarian bet sometime ago and he is spot on in his reading.KUDOS to RAMESH DAMANI!!!!!!!(He also mentioned as one of the reason for the industry's tough times is the new emerging concept"GOOGLE VOICE"). By the Way,I am not a technology man by any stretch of imagination.

With U.S market in lot of mess still and the printing notes and giving stimulus is not the solution, the crisis created by 40-50 years of borrowing and spending can not be corrected in 1-2 years. My reading is that it should take atleast 5years if not more and so we are in for long testing years before the new highs are made in any sustainable basis in emerging markets or elsewhere. RALLY IN ITS FINAL LAP

The problems in the U.S economy are not only continuing inspite of the liberal printing of currency notes by the Federal Reserve but are actually worsening day by day. Take a look the recent economic news and numbers:

1.UNEMPLOYMENT

This is threatening to touch double digits soon but President Obama continues to guarantee jobs to everybody everyday.

2.CLOSER OF U.S.BANKS - REGIONAL

Regulators have shut Warren Bank in Warren, Mich., and two small banks in Colorado and Minnesota, boosting the number of failed U.S. banks this year to 98 as loan defaults rise in the worst financial climate in decades, as losses have mounted on commercial real estate and other soured loans in the wake of the financial crisis and the recession that has gripped the economy. The failures have cost the fund that insures bank deposits about $25 billion, the FDIC said Tuesday.

The fund has been so sapped by the wave of collapsing banks that it now has fallen into the red. The FDIC now expects the cost of bank failures to grow to about $100 billion over the next four years -- up from an estimate of $70 billion made in the spring. Most of the $100 billion in costs are expected to come from failures this year and next.

3.SOCIAL SECURITY COSTS

As more elderly people who are losing jobs are not able to get another job, they are opting for the social security and medical benefits which is already putting a strain in that fund.

4.The major buyer of U.S.Bonds/treasury paper today is China which is now open in its view that it wants an alternative currency to U.S.Dollar and that it is looking at investments which are in real assets/value than in paper form.So, if China decides to stop funding the borrowings of U.S then imagine what will be the result. This situation is without taking into a/c the possibility of China selling U.S bonds/treasury papers?

The stock markets world over are in their own self,going up on easy money flow and discounting the positives only like signs of growth(or worst is over). These same theories are talked about even in December 2007 when U.S Fed cut interest rates from 5.25% to 0.50%. The money flow was there and also lot of MONEY WAS WAITING IN THE SIDELINES to buy at every fall. But we all know that the money in the sidelines never came to the market even after SENSEX came down from 21000 to 7700.

I am fairly convinced that this liquidity driven rally is in its final laps now and may soon end gasping for breadth as it has no final target to end the race but will have to end on its own only due to exhaustion.BEST OF LUCK

Return of recklessness

Is it deficit MONSOON? Who is talking about it. Are the stock valuations fair and reasonable or overvalued? Nobody seems to care about it. Have all the negatives on corporate workings and financial tightness resolved? Who is bothered. All every trader and strangely the INVESTORS want is to make money, that too quickly and everyday. And for this, all of them want the market to keep going up. And the sentiment is adequately supported by the money supply and the cheerful faces of some business channels who are always talking about market going up only.

It is shameful that many analysts and business channels who talk about decoupling theory are also talking about Dow Futures and S&P 500's chart. Why should they be worried about them when they are convinced of our(INDIAN) markets decoupling? I dont understand.

I am convinced that the short term money(about which neither the Govt nor the SEBI is bothered) which is driving many stocks to unreasonable valuations will dry up soon and then we can see a collapse similar to what we saw after the Budget. The Dollar Index is suggesting a sharp reversal and the stocks and commodities will follow suit in the opposite direction. So be very choosy in buying, if at all you want to buy.Otherwise sit tight on your money and deploy it from 4200 to 3800 level. ALL THE BEST

WHEN & WHERE IT WILL END??????????

It has been an eventful year for Stock markets worldwide, so rough and bumpy that it could challenge the Chennai Autorikshaw wallas.As all good things come to an end, the 5 year bull market also did the same, though the end was painful enough to remove all the happiness that the good times provided. And nobody knows as of today whether the pain is over or not.After scalling steadily from 3000(sensex)in April 2003 to 15600 in September 2008(which I thought was the peak),sensex became senseless after the cut in U.S.interest rates,which started on the 18th Spetember 2007 and went on to hit 21200 by December 2007. Now the U.S.interest rate is down to 0-0.25% but the same senseless SENSEX is down 50% from the top. So once again it is clearly established that market discounts the fundamentals far ahead(6-12months) of the actual events.
Now that the interest rates,commodity prices- particularly Crude Oil are all coming down, the buzzword in the market is SLOWDOWN. Now the slowdown has hit all sectors and the sentiment is full of gloom and doom. The last 2 negatives to come out in the open in the next 3-6 months are CORPORATE RESULTS and ELECTION. This also coincides with the expected TIME WISE Correction of 18 months.
So, in my opinion, it is time to list your PORTFOLIO CONSTITUANTS now and get ready for the next bull market. By March 2009 you should have invested atleast 15-20% of your surplus and by June 2009 atleast 40-50%. To know which sector and what shares,

TIME TO BUY????????????

It was panic selling all around the world in the last week of October 2008.Nobody knew which market was following the other, as it became a vicious circle with one falling after another.Then came a sharp pullback of 30 to 50% in most of the markets in a quick time before grinding lower again. The Friday(21st Nov) rally starting from Hongkong, minutes before the Indian Markets opened, threw a surprise to many in India after a fall of more than 400 points in Dow on Thursday.Again it looks like a temporary relief rally after 7-8 days of continuous fall.

Now the question in Every body's mind is, when and where will we see the market bottom. While the numbers swings widely from 1600 -1900 for nifty and 6200-6900 for sensex, there are a vast majority who are convinced that there are screaming valuations in many front line and mid cap shares. But still only 1 out of 10 are buying and a lot more who actually wants to buy dont have the money to buy. And as it happens always near the bottom, those who are having money to invest prefer to keep quite, while many others are selling their shares either in fruastration or on the hope that they can buy them back at lower prices later.

I am of the opinion that the October low of 2252(NIFTY) and 7698(SENSEX)may not be broken deeply. I would put a 75% chance for the same. I am reasonably convinced that it is time to build one's portfolio and not worry about the bottom which is only a number. I am of the opinion that with a downward risk of 10-15% there are many stocks which can give a return of 50 to 100% in the next 2-3 years. My assumption is based on quite a few factors which I can not divulge in open as it is my source of income.

IS THE END IN SIGHT?????????????

In my last article dated 29th september, I predicted the Nifty to fall to 3425-3475 levels in 3 months time but truly did not expect the markets to tank like this in just 2 weeks. The Nifty touched a low of 3099.90 yesterday making it a significant bottom for the time being. Now all the bad/negative news are out in the open like:

1.The Financial mess in U.S housing & banking sectors

2.The Slow down in Indian Corporate growth & earnings

3.The extreme pessimism in Job markets in India and world over

4.The panic created in few Gaint Indian Corporates like ICICI Bank & Jet Airways similar to the collapse of few gaints in U.S.A & Europe.

5.The expectations that another 4-5 million houses will come under default in U.S

and so on & so forth. While markets may fall for 1 or 2 days when the negative news actually comes out in the open, the fear of unknown is largely discounted. And the concerted efforts taken by the Regulatory Authorities world over will start bearing fruit in the next 3-6 months.

As far the Indian stock market, 3000-3100(nifty) seems to be a good bottom for now with strong resistence between 3525-3650. I recommend buying Nifty close to the support levels of 3000-3100 for decent profits.Even if the Nifty is to breach 3000level, it will bounce back quickly & sharply to make sure that you make an exit by protecting your capital.

I am also recommending to BUY ICICI Bank around 360-380 & Praj Industries @75-80 range for decent trading profits.

IS IT THE BEGINNING OR THE END??????????

After watching many financial Institutions shuting shop in the last 2-3 months, the question in everybody's mind is - where all this will stop? For more than a year since the sub-prime crisis broke out, the U.S.Govt and its high flying corporate big-wigs were in a denial mode. They kept saying(intentionally and/or foolishly) that the sub prime crisis will not spread to the overall economy and that the financial instituions carrying billions of dollars of these toxic securities are safe and so on. Now it is open to all to see that years of constant borrowing and spending is costing the U.S.A very badly and it is dragging down the world along with it.

I was surprised and little shocked that many pundits and analysts in India were talking about a phenomenon called "De Coupling" theory.When the going was good - they wanted all the money from the west and when the west had a problem, they were talking as if India is immune to the troubles of the west.And please remember that while they(FII's) invested many many billions in India markets in the last4-5 years of bull phase, they have withdrawn only about 9 billion U.S.dollars since the fall started from 21200(sensex) in January2008.

As it happens in any bull market, the real estate,construction & infrastructure sector shares went through the roof in valuations and the stories were properly in place to justify those hefty valuations. Now these shares have lost anywhere between 60 -80% from their all time highs.

Though the nifty broke the previous low of 3790 today, it had a nice pullback to close at 3850 giving some hope for the bulls/optimists.But I feel this pullback maybe short lived and Nifty is sure to break todays low of 3775 and come down to around 3425-3475 in the next 3 months. But I am still not sure whether that will be the bottom for the market. I wish I know the answer. So, till then, like all of you, I will also wait (im)patiently.

RELIEF RALLY

At last the 4 years of Stigma attached to the Govt by the LEFT has gone. Memories are still fresh as to how the market crashed in 2004 when the left party announced support to the Govt and when Mr.Sitaram Yechury made a statement that the Disinvestment Ministry will be scrapped. Now if you see in handsight, that seems to be the first major correction in the bull run that started in April 2003 followed by the steeper one in May 2006 before the market peaked out in January 2008.Now the reversal pattern is playing out.The market is playing for a fast & temporary bounce for any positive news after a long phase of falling prices. The survival of Dr.Manmohan Singh Govt, the passing of the Neuclear Bill and the falling Crude Oil prices by almost 22dollars/barrel(that is a good 15%) from the peak in a short span of 3 weeks all adding to the sentiment. As it happens always, people forget(or want to forget) the inflation and industrial producton figures for a while and play for the smart rally in the market. But as history repeats, 80% of the stocks in everybody's portfolio will not show any visible or desirable improvement while the SENSEX/NIFTY shows a rise of 15 to 25% from the bottom.
While a lot of investors will sell now on the assumption that they can again buy the same stocks at lower levels, only a small lot of them actually buy them back. Another set of investors buy stocks they are already holding at high rates thinking that they are averaging down their cost. While the first set of investors dont realise that they are booking a huge loss to catch a small fall in the shareprices, the second set of investors throw good money on the samestocks that let them down or whose valuations are unjustified.
So play these Relife Rallis carefully and restructure your portfolio in these times by selling the weak ones and add the strong ones during the following corrections. In my opinion, even if NIFTY claims to around 4750-4850 levels, it will revisit 4050-4250 levels again as the economy and India Inc has lot of rough roads & uncertainities to cross before resuming the uptrend. But even then, the all time high touched in January 2008 may not crossed not in a hurry and not before late 2009 or early 2010. Happy Investing!!

TIME TO KEEP YOUR EARS OPEN

It has been a long time since I posted my last article on stock market. The last 2 months have been hectic for me in the form of travel,both personally&professionally.
The stock market, throughout the world in general, and India in particular are in a strong downwide momentum and gaining speed as it breaches important support levels.
The Nifty, after a brief rally upto 5275-5300 in May, has become distinctively weak and all subsequent rallies were quickly sold into turning any investment buying into loss for the time being.
Now with Inflation at 11.50% and crude at 140 dollars/barrel, market is in no mood to reward any buyers or contrarians.Though lot of analysts and fund managers are expecting a fall of only 8-10% fall in Index from these levels, nobody is willing to buy shares for long term as there are too many uncertainities surrounding the market.
In my opinion, these levels of 4000-4100 may hold on as bottom for this July series and may move upto 4350-4375 on the upside.Keep your ears open and as more and more people talk negatively abt market in general and index levels in particular, start investing steadily for doubling your money in 3 years time.Best of Luck!

சுஜாதா என்று எழுத்துலகில் அறியப்படும் ஓரு இனிய எழுத்தாளரை இழந்து நிற்கும் இவ்வேளையில் அவரைப் பற்றிய சில தகவல் துளிகள்:

காற்று புகாத இடங்கள் எப்படியில்லையோ, அதே போல இவர் எழுத்துலகில் சாதிக்காத/ தொடாத துறைகளே இல்லையென கூறலாம்.

அறிவியலை தனது எளிய முறையில் பாமரனும் புரிந்து கொள்ளும் வகையில் தமது படைப்புகளில் புகுத்தி தமிழ் எழுத்துலகிற்கே முன்னோடியாக திகழ்ந்தவர் இவரேயாவர்.

இவருடைய திறமை அறிவியல் சார்ந்து மட்டும் இல்லாமல் மற்ற துறைகளிலும் இருந்தது. இலக்கியத்தின் மீது தீராது மோகம் கொண்ட இவரது திறமை, சிறுகதைகள், தொடர்கள், அறிவியல் கட்டுரைகள், கேள்வி பதில்கள் என பரந்து விரிந்து நின்றது. இது மட்டுமா? சினிமாத் துறையிலும் தனது திறமையை நிரூபித்தவர்.

இவரது முதல் கதை 1953ஆம் ஆண்டு வெளி வந்தது.ஆனால் இவர் பிரபலமடைய தொடங்கியது 1962 ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல்தான்.இவரது படைப்புகள் தொடர்ந்து வெளியாகின,அவர் தனது இறுதி மூச்சு வரை எழுத்தையும் சேர்த்து சுவாசித்தவர்.இவரது படைப்பில் 100க்கும் மேற்ப்பட்ட நாவல்கள்,200க்கும் மேற்ப்பட்ட சிறுகதைகள்,10 அறிவியல் நூல்கள், 10 நாடகங்கள் அடங்கும்.

அறிவியலை எப்படி தனது எழுத்துகளில் பதித்தாரோ அதேபோல், கை வலிக்க எழுதும் முறையை மாற்றி கணிணி மூலம் பதிப்புகளை எழுத வித்திட்டவரும் அதி வெற்றி கண்டவரும் இவரே.இன்று கணிணி இல்லாத படைப்பாளிகளே இல்லை எனலாம்.

இவருடைய எழுத்துகளில் காணும் நகைச்சுவை உணர்வு,சாதாரன வார்த்தைகள், நக்கல், எதார்த்தம் உள்ளிட்டவை இவருக்கு எண்ணற்ற ரசிகர்களை உலகம் பூராவும் பெற்றுத் தந்தது.

தமிழ் இலக்கிய உலகில் புரட்சியை ஏற்படுத்தியவர் சுஜாதா எனலாம். சுத்தத் தமிழில் எழுதினால்தான் இலக்கியம் என்று கூறப்பட்டு வந்த நிலையில் அதை மாற்றி புதுமையைப் புகுத்தியவர் இவர்தான்.

எழுத்தாளர் ஒருவருக்கு முதன் முதலாக கட் அவுட் வைக்கப்பட்டது சுஜாதாவுக்குத்தான். ஆனந்த விகடனில் வெளியான அவரது நாவல்களான கனவுத் தொழிற்சாலை மற்றும் பிரிவோம் சந்திப்போம் ஆகியவற்றிக்காக விகடன் ஆசிரியர் பாலசுப்பிரமணியன் சுஜாதாவுக்கு சென்னை அண்ணா சாலையில் கட் அவுட் வைத்து பெருமைப்படுத்தினார்.

என்னை அவர்பால் ஈர்த்தது அவருடைய "கரையெல்லாம் செண்பகப்பூ" என்ற தொடர் கதைதான்.கிராமப்புர கவிதை வரிகளோடு கதையோட்டம் தெளிந்த நீரோடை போல் செல்லும்.இந்த கதை பின்னால் திரைப்படமாகவும் வெளி வந்தது.

அவரின் சொந்த வாழ்க்கையிலும் எளிமையாக வாழ்ந்தவர்.பணத்திற்கும் புகழுக்கும் என்றுமே பேராசை கொள்ளாதவர்.அவருக்கு நடந்த அறுவை சிகிச்சையைக்கூட நகைச் சுவையோடு ஏடுகளில் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.இயற்கைக்கு இசைந்து கொடுப்பவர்.

இன்று நம்மிடையே அவர் வாழவில்லையென்றாலும், அவருடைய எழுத்துக்கள் என்றும் நம்முடன் வசிக்கும் என்பதில் எவ்வித ஐய்யமும் இல்லை.அவர் ஆத்மா சாந்தியடைய நாம் பிரார்திப்போம்.

ஏப்ரல் 13. சித்திரை பிறந்தது. பக்கத்து வீட்டு கோமதி புதுப்புடவையை கட்டிக்கொண்டு, "பரிமளா! நீயும் புதுசைக் கட்டிக்கோயேன், ரெண்டு பேருமா கோயிலுக்கு போய்ட்டு வரலாம்" என்றாள். "இந்த நீல புடவை எனக்கு எவ்வளவு அழகா இருக்கு! 500 ரூபாய் கிழிஞ்ஜது கூட எனக்கு நல்லதாப் போச்சு" என்று மனசு பெருமைப்பட்டது.

கோவில் உட்பிரகாரத்தில் காலை வைக்கும் போது கீழே டைல்ஸில் இருந்த தண்ணீரை பாராமல் காலை வைக்க பாலன்ஸ் தவறி கையில் விளக்கேற்ற கொண்டு வந்த எண்ணை புடவையில் சிந்தியது.பரிமளாவுக்கு அழுகை முட்டியது. "சீயக்காய்த் தேய்த்து கழுவினால் போய்டும்" - கோமதி சமாதானப் படுத்தினாள். விட்டுக்குப் போனதும் கொஞ்ஜம் சீயக்காயும், சோப்பும் போட்டு எண்ணை பட்ட இடத்தில் தேய்த்தாள். அவ்வளவுதான். "அய்யோ! என்னங்க! புடவை எப்படி சாயம் கொட்டுது பாருங்களேன்! நீல சாயம் முழுக்க பார்டரில் இறங்கிடுச்சு பாருங்க! படுபாவி! அந்த புடவைக்காரன் நம்பள நல்லா ஏமாத்திட்டாங்க" என்றாள் மனம் நொந்தபடி.

ஏப்ரல் முதல் தேதி.பட்டாபி பால் கார்டு வாங்குவதற்கு க்யூவில் நின்று கொண்டிருந்தான்.கசகச என்று காலை நேர வெய்யில் எரிச்சலாக வந்தது.க்யூ மெதுவாகத்தான் நகர்ந்தது.கார்டு வாங்கிக்கொண்டு ஆபீஸ் போகவேண்டிய டென்ஷன்.மெல்ல அரை மணி நேரம் கழித்து பட்டாபியின் முறை வந்தபோது பின்னாலிருந்து கூட்டம் முண்டியடித்து முன்னுக்குத் தள்ளியது. அவசரமாய் பர்ஸிலிருந்து எடுத்த 500 ரூபாய் நோட்டு பர்ரென ஜிப்பில் மாட்டி கிழிந்தது. விதியை நொந்து கொண்டு வேறொரு நோட்டை கொடுத்து கார்டு வாங்கி, ஆபீஸ் விரைந்தான். மனசு கிழிந்த நோட்டை எப்படி தள்ளுவது என்று கணக்குப் போட்டது.

ஆபீஸ் முடிந்து வீட்டுக்குச் செல்லும் வழியில் தனக்கு BP மருந்து உள்பட இன்னபிற மருந்து வகைகளின் மாதாந்திர பில்லயும் செட்டில் பண்ண பார்மஸிக்கு சென்று கிழிந்த நோட்டை நான்காக மடித்து ஒன்றுமே தெரியாதது போல கொடுத்தான். மருத்து கடை ஊழியர், இவர் ரெகுலர் கஸ்டமர் ஆயிற்றே என்று " சார், நீங்க வேற நோட்டு 2 நாள் கழிச்சு தாங்க சார், என்கிட்ட இந்த கிழிஞ்ஜ நோட்டு ஓடாது" என்றார்.

வீட்டில் விஷயத்தைச் சொல்ல, மனைவி பரிமளா வெகு சாமர்த்தியமாய் மறு நாள் காலை காய்கறிக்காரனிடம் நோட்டை தள்ளப் பார்க்க "என்னம்மா! அம்பது ரூபா காய்க்கு ஐ நூறு ரூபாய் நோட்டு தர, அதுவும் இது கிழிஞ்ஜிருக்கு" என்று கத்தினான். அதே எரிச்சலுடன் உள்ளே நுழைந்து, " இந்த துப்பு கெட்ட மனுஷனுக்கு எல்லாம் அவசரம். பொறுப்பு கிடையாது. இந்த நோட்டை பாங்கிலே மாத்தனும்ன்னா போக வர ஆட்டோ செலவே 40 ரூபா தண்டம் அழணும், இந்த வெய்யில்ல யாரு நடந்து போறது" என்று பட்டாபியின் காது பட இரைந்தாள்.

அப்போது " பரிமளா! நம்ம புடவைக்காரர் நல்ல காட்டன் புடவைகள் கொண்டு வந்துருக்காரு! நீ பார்க்க வரயா?" பக்கத்து வீட்டு கோமதி குரல் கொடுத்தாள். தற்பொழுது புடவை வாங்க வேண்டிய தேவையே இல்லையென்றாலும் 520 ரூபாய்க்கு அடர்ந்த நீல நிறத்தில் சாம்பல் நிற பார்டர் போட்ட புடவையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு " புடவைக்காரரே, போகும்போது நம்ம வீட்டுக்கு வந்து பணத்தை வாங்கிக்கோங்க" என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு வந்தாள்.

ஏற்கனவே அழகாக செல்லோ டேப் போட்டு ஒட்டி வைத்திருந்த 500 ரூபாய் நோட்டோடு ஒரு 20 ரூபாயையும் சேர்த்து புடவைச் சுமையைத் தூக்கி வந்தவனிடம் சாமர்த்தியமாக கொடுத்து விட்டாள். "அப்பாடா, ஒரு வழியாக கிழிஞ்ஜ நோட்டு கைமாறியதே!" என்று பெருமூச்செறிந்தாள்.

HOW MUCH THEY CAN CORRECT?????

It is now very clear that the 5year old bull market which started April 2003 has ended in India with more and more number of stocks hitting 52 weeks low everyday.And as usual people are still not accepting reality and are buying at every fall or every feeble rise thinking that the bottom is nearby.These are not investors(atleast most of them) who is buying with 2to3years holding in mind.But they may become such long term investors because of market conditions.So they are long term investors not by choice but by force.
Now the discussion going around in the market circles and the media is how long the market can keep falling? How much a DLF or Punj Loyd or Reliance fall? I am giving here some statistics for you to understand how much stock prices can fall, especially after the bull market peaks with crazy valuations for any sector or for the market as a whole.

If you take the last 20years, the 1st major bull market we saw was in 1991-1992 - the Harshad Mehta(BIG BULL)Bull market.Cement companies were the heros in that bull market.

1.ACC: The share touched a peak of Rs.400.97(adjusted for Bonus,rights and split)in April 1992 and then fell to touch a low of 84.47 in June 1993 - a fall of 78.93%
That 1992 high was crossed again only in July 2005 - a long wait of 13years.

2.GRASIM:Touched a high of Rs.700.00 in April 1992 and then kept falling for the next 7yeas to touch a low of Rs.113.00 in April 1999 - a fall of 83.85%

3.MADRAS CEMENT:Touched a high of Rs.1200.00 on October 1994(the mini boom when FIIs were allowed to invest in indian stock market) The share touched a low of Rs.287.00 a fall of 76.08%

4.INDIAN RAYON(now Aditya Birla Nuvo)Touched a high of Rs.493.00 in August 1994 and a low of Rs.43.50 in May 2000 - a fall of 91.17%

5.INDIA CEMENT: Touched a high of Rs.169.19 in September 1994 and a low of Rs.12.85in April 2003 - a fall of 92.40%

Now let us see the I.T bull market and its aftereffects in 2000-2001.

1.INFOSYS: The share touched a high of Rs.1726.61 in March 2000 and then crashed to a low of Rs.269.50 in October 2001 - a whopping fall of 84.39% for one of the best companies in India.

2.WIPRO: The share touched a high of Rs.1633.32(in absolute terms this Rs.10/-face value share touched Rs.40000/- duering its peak)and crashed to a low of Rs.131.87 in May 2003 - a fall of 91.92%

3.SATHYAM COMPUTER: Touched a high of Rs.727.50 in April 2000 and a low of Rs.55.50 in September 2001 - a fall of 92.37%

And remember except Infosys none of the other I.T companies crossed their all time highs after 7 years till today
Also remember, that the index normally corrects from the peak of bull market to the end of correction anywhere between 40 to 60%.So from the high of 21200 touched in January 2008, it can correct down to 12720(40%) or 10600(50%) if not 8480 which a 60%correction for the sensex from its peak.

So have these points in mind and dont be in a rush to buy shares in Infrastructure, power,real estate and construction sectors as they still have got lot of room to correct.ALL the best.

DOESES OF OXYGEN FAILING???????

The expected sequence of events are unfolding in their own classic way.First the relentless easing of interest rates,easy liquidity,over leverage leading to heating up of asset prices and that leading to over optimism and greed.While it is understandable that an individual or an Institution takes reasonable risks in the money making exercise, it is indeed suprising and sometimes shocking that so called or perceived big and safe ones resort to excessive leverage or risks far beyond any permissible levels of imagination.It is more so shocking to see that such large institutions resort to the most common practice of individuals who are in the last stages of becoming bankrupt or insolvent known as "Teaming and Leading" - an exercise of borrowing from one and returning to another to keep floating.And also these large instituions resorted to borrowing for short term to meet the short term and in some case long term committments - a must no by any prudent money manager. So as the supply of short term money dried up these institution chock and suffer massive attacks like run on the bank and/or bankruptcy.It happened in the case of the bank"NORTHERN ROCK" in England last last year and it may well happen to"BEAR STEARNS" in U.S sooner or later.And I feel this "Bear Stearns" case is just the beginning of the bigger failures we may see in the U.S banking system which will have its logical contageon effect in world financial markets.
Coming back to our Indian Stock markets, With economy slowing down,corporate profits likely to shrink in the next few quarters and valuations still not cheap in any of the sectors that propelled the market to dizzy heights, the correction is far from over.Not many may remember that after the 2000-2001 ICE(Information,Communication & Entertainment)meltdown, even the topline shares like Infosys,Satyam and Wipro corrected 70 to 80% from their peak prices and the index corrected more than 50%While many may have stopped buying for the time being now, many will start selling from nowon only,first the liquid ones and then the others. With hardly 10 stocks hitting new highs(52week) and 300 stocks hitting new lows, we are clearly in for a prolonged bearish phase if people still dont want to call it as bear market yet.With these local and global factors,I will not be surprised to see Sensex around 12200 to 12500 and Nifty around 3700-3800.You may not be able to buy stocks at their lowest prices but certainly you can buy a lot of them at 20-30% lower than current prices. You may not be able to time the bottom but you can surely potpone your buying for the time being.Best of Luck!!!!

Why I want to be a Farmer in India?

So it has come and gone. Yes. I am referring to the Union Budget of India for the Financial year 2008-2009. One more annual event for the Country's Finance Minister to show his balancing talents and robinhood heroism. And in my humble opinion he did a commendable act. The reduction of effective rate of income tax by increasing the slab limits will put more money in the hands of the only genuine class of taxpayers -the salaried class. This will act both as a stimulus for consumption and savings, which will help growth. The steep increase in the short term capital gains tax from 10% to 15%, though not liked by market in general and punters in particular, will be good in the long term as investors will learn to hold shares for longer term thus reducing the volatality and providing stability to the market. The only area which disappoiinted me or even made me angry was the write off of agricultural loans to farmers to the extent of Rs.60000 crs. Already most of the states give them free electricity and on top of that loans on soft rates of interest. Again why they should be given a waiver or write off? Then why the whole exercise of loan application,disbursement and all. Simply give them subsidy. Fix an amount for the land they hold and disburse the amount. And if farmers can be given this benefit, why not weavers,auto drivers,rickshawallaws,and so on and so forth. While these people face the risk of their asset(which only gives them the livelyhood) being attached or taken away by the banker for loan defaults, why not the land be confisicated for a farmer's default. And to make the matter more laughable, the F.M announces in his Budget speech in the Parliment itself that these farmers are eligible for new loans. On one side people face tough times in police stations and courts for small amount of defaults of genuine nature. On another side people are openly encouraged to default by the government itself.These kind of preferential treatment only irritate people and make Gandhis turn into Ghotses.

எல்லோரும் ஜலதோஷம் பிடித்தால் முன்று அல்லது நான்கு நாட்கள் கஷ்ட்டபடுவார்கள். எனக்கு அந்த நாட்கள்தான் விடுமுறை. அப்பொழுது என் மனைவி செய்யும் சிசுருஷயை நீங்கள் பார்க்க வேண்டும். என் மூக்கு சரியாவதில்தான் அவளுக்கு எத்தனை அக்கறை. பின்ன என்னங்க, மோப்ப நாயால் அதுக்கு என்ன பிரயோஜனம்? அதை வளர்ப்பவர்களுக்கு தானே அதன் பயன் தெரியும்.ஹி ஹி இது ஒரு உதாரணம்தான், நீங்க கற்பனைய கன்னா பின்னான்னு அலைய விடக்கூடாது.

என் மூக்கு செய்யும் வேலை ஒன்றா ரெண்டா? சமையலுக்கு தேங்காய் உடைத்தவுடன் அது அழுகலா என்று சந்தேகம் வந்தால் அது ஆரம்ப நிலையா இல்லை ரொம்ப மோசமான்னு மோப்பம் பிடிச்சு சொல்லணும். அழுகல் தேங்காயை கண்டுபிடிப்பதில் நான் அத்தாரிட்டி என்பது அவள் அபிப்பிராயம்.

சரி அத விடுங்க. என் பையன் ஐந்து வயது வரை ராத்திரி படுக்கையிலே மூச்சா போவான். சில நாள் சீக்கிரமாகவே போய்விட்டால் காலையில் காய்ந்து விடும். அப்பொழுது எந்த எந்த துணிகளை தோய்க்க போடுவது, எந்த எந்த துணிகளை வெய்யிலில் காய போடுவது என்பதை நிர்ணயிப்பது என் மூக்குதான்.

அப்பறம் இந்த வெண்ணெய் காய்ச்சற அன்னிக்கி ரொம்ப கூரா மூக்கை தீட்டிக்கணும். அப்போது ஒருவிதமான வாசனை(நாற்றம்) வரும் பாருங்க. சரியா காய்ச்சல்லைன்னா நெய் மொழுக்குன்னு இருக்கும். மணல் மணலா காய்ச்சறேன்னு கொஞ்சம் விட்டா தீஞ்ச வாசனை வரும். அப்படி வந்துடுத்துன்னா நெய் நம் தட்டில் விழும் போது நமக்கு கொஞ்சம் திட்டும் விழும்.

சரி இந்த ஊதுவத்தி வாங்கற விஷயத்துக்கு வருவோம். சாம்ப்ராணி வாசனை அட்டையில் மட்டும் வருகிறதா அல்லது உள்ளிருந்து வருகிறதா என மாசல்வடையை கண்டிபிடிக்கும் எலி போல நான் கண்டுபிடிக்க வேண்டும். சில சமயம் ஏற்றியவுடன் கூட சரியாக தெரியாமல் அந்த நெருப்பு பொறி மூக்கில் பொட்டு வைக்கும் அளவுக்கு போவதும் உண்டு. அப்பொழுதும் வாசனையில்லாமல் நீ அந்த சேல்ஸ் கேர்ள் கிட்ட எமாந்த்துட்டன்னு சொன்னாலும் கோபபடாம உங்கள் மூக்கின் முடிவே இறுதி முடிவு என்று ஒப்புக்கொள்ளும் நல்ல மனசு அவளுக்கு.

அப்பறம் மாசத்துல ஒரு நாள் ப்ரிஜ்ச க்ளீன் பண்ணும் போது பாக்கணும். பல தேதிகளில் செய்த பலவித ஐட்டங்கள் பலவிதமான சைஸ் பாத்திரங்களில் அடைபட்டிருக்கும். அதில் ஏதாவது ஒரு ஐட்டம் ரொம்ப மோசமாக ஆகி இருந்தால் அந்த கருப்பு ஆட்டை(black sheep) கண்டுபிடித்து சொல்வதற்கும் என் மூக்கு பயன்படுத்தப்படும்.

இப்படி பல காரியங்களுக்கும் ஏன் ஆண்களின் மூக்கை பயன்படுத்துகின்றார்கள். அப்ப அவங்களுக்கு எட்டு கல்லோ இல்ல வைர கல்லோ பதித்த நகை அணிய மட்டும்தான் மூக்கா?

The predictable results are on their way. Afer falling a good 16% in January alone, the Indian Stock Market continued to show its weakness in February also. And adding to the unfolding stories of misery are the devolvement or withdrawal of IPOs like Wockhardt Hospitals and Emmar-MGF. As I had observed in my posts in October and November 2007, the market went up from 15500 to 21200 without any change in fundamendals but only with sheer madness under the pretext that the interest rate cuts in U.S will help moneyflows to Emerging Markets. And I am sure atleast a small percentage of that madness was contributed by the TV Channels who were celeberating every 1000 points rise by cutting cakes and wearing clown caps, not knowing that market will make them look so soon. I am also surprised by the fact that lot of them are still hoping for an uptrend in the market as quickly as in february under the pretext that the refund money of Reliance Power IPO will flow into the market or the pre budget rally and all. Again they make the same mistake of talking abt cheap valuation because the prices are 30-50% cheaper than they were 1 or 2 months ago. In my view, this bull market which started way back in April 2003 with SENSEX at 3000 has risen 18000 points. So a correction of 50% of that say 9000points is a possibility. That makes it a possibility that Sensex can come down to 12200(21200-9000) but taking into account the corporte growth and PE expansion it may halt between 14000 to 15000. The credit crisis in U.S and Europe are far from over though the steps taken recently may start bearing fruit in the next 6 months or so. But remember we, in Indian Market have to catch up with lot of downside as the virtual collapse of IPO market and the OVERSUPPLY and OVER INVESTMENT in Real Estate sector will show their ugly faces in the coming days. So dont be in any hurry to invest now. Even 3 months later you may get many stocks at the same rates if not lower. So plan your taxes, enjoy your summer holidays and spend time with family and friends rather than with Business channels and stock market. HAVE A GOOD TIME.

டைரக்டர்: சரி அதுவும் கொஞ்ஜம் வித்தியாசமாதான் இருக்கு, மேலே போங்க.

The insanity gets a break

For the first time since the U.S Fed started cutting interest rates in September2007,
the Indian stock market stopped its manic and insane bull run for this week after galloping from 15500 to 21200. It simply disregarded the global events like the write down of billions of dollars and all the big banks of the world's largest economy running for cover to shore up capital and their balance sheets. And adding to the mania was the theory of Growing indian economy, pouring money into Indian markets and new found theory of demerging several divisions of a company to take advantage of the insanity.

Just look at the following absurds.

1.Reliance Energy seperates Reliance Power and while Anil ambani acquires shares in Reliance power at Rs.17/- per share, issues it to the public at 450 and that in turn expects to get listed at 800-900. And the project will take 6 years to equal the capacities of NTPC or Tata Power which are trading at significant discounts. It is not anything but insanity?

2. The High court of a state government just recommends a lower price to be paid by the sugar companies for the procurement of sugar cane and immediately all the sugar shares(even the ones which are not in that state) jump 10-15-20% as if all is rosy from then on. The forgotten facts are that they are all already bleeding with losses last 2 quarters, the crushing for the current season got delayed by 30-35 days and the sugar prices in the international market is still near its 1 year low.

3. The so called oil marketing Navrathnas loose crs of money everyday and the annual loss is estimated to be around Rs.70,000/- crs due to under recovery and subsidies but the government does not allow them to raise prices even though it has OFFICIALLY
dismantled the APM - Administered Price Mechanism way back in 2002.

4. The U.S dollor continues to plunge across all major currencies and most of the I.T majors accepting that further strengthening of rupee will surely affect the margins. Thats is why when the sensex is just 10% off its all time highs as of yesterday(18th Jan 2008) most of the I.T heavyweights like Infosys,NIIT Tech,Patni Computers,Satyam and Tech Mahindra hit their 52 week lows.

5. Now if the real estate boom was predominently aiming at these IT bigboys for commercial purposes and their young,aspiring and well paid engineers for residential purposes, how will that sustain when the industry is reeling under margin pressure and slowdown.

The negatives goes on and on but the stock market is disregarding all these and on the contrary went from strength to strength(or shall we say speculation to over speculation)only to create a bubble that finally went bust this week.

While many may think that this sharp fall is an opportunity to buy, I see a further fall of atleast 1000 points in sensex to 18000 levels and in case of worsening situations in U.S like bankruptcy, a possibility of 16500-17000. So get back your sanity and invest for long term.

PROUD INDIAN

I am proud to be an Indian for so many things in the past. Today I have that feeling again for one more reason thanks to our own RATAN TATA. The world watched INDIA and HIM today IN AWE as he drove and got out of his dream car, the People's car of India - THE TATA NANO costing just 2500$ or 1 lakh rupees. Remember the project was enviseiged 4 years back and the price of 1 lakh was fixed then.Inspite of so much of increase in costs of various components, he kept & met his promise at least at the Calcutta Showroom level.After transportation and taxes it may cost 1.30lakhs and a a.c version may cost 1.40-1.50lakhs. Still it a lakh cheaper than a Maruti 800 and nearly half of the cheapest car in the world coming from China.It is a 625CC engine and was unveiled in the Delhi Auto Show yesterday the 10th January 2008. The car will start plying in the Indian roads later in the year and will surely be a big hit with the growing aspirations of Indian Middle Class.In the ensuing ceremony Ratan Tata said he used to leave his factory somedays at 2am and again return at 7am next day morning.Such was the committment and determination and no wonder he is were he is today.KUDOS TO RATAN TATA AND TATA MOTORS AND BE PART OF THIS GREAT MOMENT TO BE A PROUD INDIAN

இன்று திரு ஏ.ஆர்.ரஹ்மானின் பிறந்த நாள். நம்ப முடியவில்லை அவருக்கு 42 வயது என்று. 1966 ஆம் ஆண்டு இதே நாளில் பிறந்த அவர் ரோஜா படத்தின் மூலம் நமக்கு கிடைத்தார். அந்த முதல் படத்திலேயே தேசிய விருது வாங்கியது மட்டுமில்லாமல் மேலும் மூன்று முறை(மின்சார கனவு, லகான், கன்னத்தில் முத்தமிட்டால்) சிறந்த இசை அமைப்பாளருக்கான தேசிய விருதை பெற்றார். தமிழ் மற்றும் இந்திய இசையை உலகளவில் பெயர் பெறச்செய்தார். வந்தே மாதரம் பாடலின் மூலம் மீண்டும் தேசபற்றை இந்தியார்களிடம் குறிப்பாக இளைஞர்களிடம் உயிர்ப்பித்தார்.

அவருடைய சிறந்த பாடல்களை பட்டியல் போட்டால் இந்த வருடம் முழுவதும் நான் எழுதிக்கொண்டே இருக்க வேண்டும். இங்கே ஒரே ஒரு பாடல். இந்திரா படத்தில் வரும் "நிலா காய்கிறது நேரம் தேய்கிறது யாரும் ரசிக்கவில்லயே" என்ற இந்த பாடல் எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்தது.இதமான "கமாஸ்" ராகத்தில் அமைந்த இந்த பாடலை மொட்டை மாடியில் நிலாவை பார்த்தபடி கேட்டு பாருங்கள்.அந்த சுகமே தனி. இன்னுமொரு விஷயதிற்காகவும் இந்த பாடல் எனக்கு பிடிக்கும். இந்தபாடலில் ஆடும் ஆறு குழந்தைகளில் ஒருத்தி என் அண்ணன் மகள் நித்யா( நீல பட்டு பாவாடையும் சிகப்பு சட்டையும் அணிந்தவள் - திரு.தனஞ்செயன் அவர்களிடம் நாட்டியம் பயின்றவள்)

எல்லோருக்கும் என் இனிய புத்தாண்டு வாழ்த்துக்கள். 17 நாள் லீவில் சென்னை போய் 4ஆம் தேதி மீண்டும் சௌதி வந்தாச்சு. கிளம்பும்போது கூட என்னை அனுப்ப மனசில்லாம ஊரே அழுதது.கார்த்தால இருந்து ஒரே மழை. வேற வழி இல்லாம கிளம்பி வந்தேன். சென்னையில் புலியை( நாகை சிவா) சந்தித்து பின்பு அ(தை)வரையும் அழைத்துகொண்டு அண்ணா நகர் தாண்டின உடனே இருக்கும் அம்பத்தூரில்(ஏன் நிறைய பேர் இதை ரொம்ப தூரம்கராங்க. ஒரு வேள நடந்தே போயிருப்பாங்களோ!!!!!!!!!!!) உள்ள கீதா மேடம் வீட்டிற்கு போனேன். வெங்காய பஜ்ஜி, பால்கோவா மற்றும் அருமையான காப்பி கொடுத்தார்கள். நமது வலை நண்பர் வேதாவும் அங்கே வந்திருந்தார்கள். திரு.சாம்பசிவம் அவர்களுடன் சொந்த ஊரான சிதம்பரம் பற்றி பழங்கதைகள் பேசினேன். T R C சாரிடம் இரண்டு முறை பேசினேன் ஆனால் நேரில் சந்திக்க முடியவில்லை. கிளம்பும் அன்று அவரே வருவதாக சொன்னார் ஆனால் மழை வில்லானாக வந்து எங்கள் சந்திப்பை தடுத்தது.

After oscillating in the ninties for quite some time like Sachin Tendulkar, the crude oil went tantalisingly close to its century(100) today as it tocuhed 99.23 before retreating a bit(it is trading at 98.03 as I write this post)The main reason given for this is the weakening U.S.Dollar apart from the technical factors. There is also a consistent rumour that the GCC countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar are likely to change their Forex reserve composition from 100% U.S Dollar to a lesser percentage to minimise the risk of the fall in their Forex value due to the fall in Dollar. If they take a decison like that, then they have to sell U.S.Dollar which will further weaken it. Actually this is what Saddam Hussain wanted to do long back and made a failed attempt in bringing a consensus among the arab nations. He told them that if the oil producing arab nations start taking euros instead of dollars the U.S will not show its might all around and that was one of the important reasons why Mr.Bush wanted to keep Saddam Hussain in check and so built stories that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction which was ultimately proved to be baseless and false. But this time it is not only the Gulf nations but also China which holds the largest amt of Forex reserves in U.S dollars that wants to move away from U.S.dollar at least partially. With its economy already in the brinks of recession, the U.S Fed is now caught between rock and hard surface. If it does not cut interest rates then there will be more and more defaults on the housing loans which is already estimated to see a loss of 300billon dollars. On the other hand if it cuts interest rate to ease the liquidity situation, then the dollar will weaken further and inflation will go up.This is making a lot of anti-america nations like Venuzuela and Iran, not to miss mentioning a lot of individuals, happy.
As I wrote this article, I changed the oil price thrice - from 98.03 to 98.30 to again 98.65. May be by the time you read this post, OIL might have hit the CENTURY.

You may see in the first graph that there was a gap opening created on 29th october which is now filled in this week's correction. There is one more big gap created when sensex opened with a big gap on 19th September after the 0.50% rate cut by U.S.Fed. It also coincides with the 61.8% retracement levels. Once the lower tops lower bottoms are confirmed in the coming days, we can be reasonably sure of seeing the sensex touching 15600 levels and if this happens over a period of 6-9 months then we would have had a time-wise correcton also. So be patient and accumulate your stocks slowly and steadyly. Happy Investing.

For the first time after many months, Indian stock market closed on the negative on all the five days of the week which included a short 1 hr auspecious Muhurat trading session. The arrogance(as Mr.Udhayan Mukharjee of TV 18 called it) with which the sensex crossed 20000 even after the P-Note issue, could not lost long as it has been proved so many times in the past.Even an act of Vengence, particularly by one who has failed before, can succeed but not an attitude of arrogance. Any cricket lover will still remember how arrogant Amir Sohail was, to show our Venkatesh Prasad where he will hit the ball and where he should keep his fielder and got out the very next ball and rightfully Venkatesh prasad with vengence showed him where the pavilion was. And our friend Udhayan Mukharjee went one step above that.After a conversation with the great investment guru mr.Mark Faber, who said the U.S economy and the Sub-prime crisis will be a catastrophe and even emerging markets will correct by 20-30%, Udhayan simply said that Mr.Mark Faber is saying this last 2 years and the market is only going up. He does not understand that Mr.Mark Faber is not like CNBC TV18 which sees the market every 5-10mnts and look for directions from Asia and Europe for a 50-100 points correction. People like Mark Faber make in depth study and invest in 10-15 yrs cycle and so will always be ahead of times. We all know how arrogant operators in Indian stock market in the past were punished not by anybody but primarily by their own weight of arrogance. We all know that nobody is consitantly right in market timings or stock picking. So taking a personal pride when somebody is wrong is an act of perversion and making a hue and cry when market falls is an act of helplessness. And for a person who is merely a reportor of the stock market happenings, both are unnecessary and unwarrented. Mr.Udhayan Mukharjee - MARKET WILL DO WHAT IT THINKS AND THE SCREEN WILL SHOW IT - You just do your work of reporting that and dont go gung-ho when market goes up and put down your face and voice when they are down. 29th october 2007 is a historic day in Indian Stock Market. The BSE Sensex crossed 20000 for the first time in its history - a phenominal performence considering that Sensex was just below 3000 in April 2003 when this Bull market started.In fact after touching a high of 6150 in March2000 during the I.T boom and then falling to a low of 2595, it took more than 4 years for Sensex to break 6150 again but has taken again just 4years to touch 20000, by no means a normal achievement.While many of the I.T shares have never seen their peak again and on the contratry still trading at huge losses after 7 years, this new bull rally is triggered by a lot of sectors like steel,cement,banking,real estate,contruction,infrastructure,power and so on. So the rally was certainly broad based and supported by large flows of foreign investment.
Though there were some pockets of speculation and over valuation, the market showed lot of resilience, particularly on the political front, and gain from strength to strength after every major correction.And like every bull market enough stories are said now to justify the valuations and infact suggesting even higer valuations because China is trading at higher PE, more foreign flows will come in because of the Indian growth story, the strengthening of Rupee and weakening of dollar and so on. Like many I was also on the camp that there will be a steep correction - time wise - and stayed with more than 50% in cash. But since nobody can time the market and I have seen more than twice these excesses getting evoparated quickly, I still prefer to see the opportunity loss rather than to invest fully and take actual loss and also not have money to buy when that correction actually happens.With Fed likely to cut rates again today, markets may rally once more to a new high before realising the seriousness of the trouble in U.S Economy at some point which will surely trigger a global sell off.

CLIMAX OR ANTI - CLIMAX

So it arrived in its own style and ferosity. The correction in Indian Stock markets is there at last for all of us to see. The proposed steps to regulate foreign investments thro P.N.s(Participatory Notes) was only a trigger. If not this, something else would have triggered the fall(welcome correction, if it may soothe the optimists)
And what a day for it to confirm the reversal, 19th October, which marks the 20th Anniversary of the great crash of 1987 in U.S.markets. On that day the Dow Jones(index of U.S.Market) plunged 22.6% resulting in a loss in market value of, just hold your breath, 700 billion U.S.dollars. I shall post a seperate article on how it all happened in 1987, what led to that crash and how it all started in 1982 and all.
We have been seeing in the last 1 month,specifically from 18th Spet2007 when U.S Fed cut interest rate by 0.50%, how the world markets were celeberating the rise in stock markets due to the liquidity factor.Most of the optimists forgot to understand(or choose to neglect)the seriousness of the problems in U.S Housing and Financial markets which forced the Fed to cut interest rate that steeply.Their minds refused to understand or accept reasoning and logic as easy money making usually do.
When lot of knowledgeble and experienced Analysts/Investors pointed out that the speed of the rise is dangerous and hazardous, they were told that MARKET WILL DO WHICH IT WILL CHOOSE TO DO AND THE SCREEN TELLS YOU TO BUY SO DONT FIGHT IT. And they were also told that holding cash in a Portfolio is next to stupidity when the market goes us 4-5% week on week.But when the market tanks under its own weight these optimists make a hue and cry about Govt.decisions and regulator's action. Now they dont accept that MARKET IS DOING WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO AND SO ACCEPT THE SCREEN.
And I am appauled by the noise created by CNBC-TV18 and Mr.Udhayan Mukarjee. I wonder whether they are running a Media channel or a Broking house. The way they keep looking at the screen instead of the camera and viewers, they way they react to every move up and down, the way they look for clues from Asia or Europe when sensex or nifty falls 100 or 35 points is crazy to understand or comprahend. I doubt whether Mr.Raghav Bahl checks once in a way what is happening in the studio or what is the quality of the content or programme. It is a channel which is supposed to cover the market happenings in general and the corporate happenings in particular as it is this factor which determines the stock prices in the long term. But then, the way they celeberate the rise of every 1000pts(including having a quick drink during the working hours) and the way they extrapolate the index to predict the same for deepavali or year end is nothing short of misleading the small investors.I am sure that many small(poor) investors were sucked into the Indian markets near its peak only because of CNBC-TV18 even against the advise of many of their stock brokers.
But now Mr.Udhayan should understand and accept that MARKET IS DOING WHAT IT SHOULD DO and not blame Mr.Damodaran or Mr.Chidambaram.
And to cap all these happenings in Indian market, the 20th anniversary was celeberated in U.S also in a classic way. The Dow Jones fell 366 points and Nasdaq 75 point, a fall of 2.65% each.
My view is that the problems of U.S market and U.S economy are far serious than people have understood so far and being in a globalised world, every major country in the world map will suffer because of that inspite of local economies growing. And the Indian stock market is still to shed and pay for its excesses in the coming days. So far only the positives are factored in by the market and from now on you will see the negatives getting factored in. This will take the market to the first level of 15500 for sure and maybe 13000-14000 in the next 6-12 months.Let us see how much of that MONEY which was WAITING IN THE SIDELINES gets in during these corrections and how much of that MONEY continues to remain in the sidelines or makes a quiet exit from the queue.

WHY I AM HAPPY?

1.Is it because Russsian President Putin not only brushed aside the outcry by U.S and its allies about Iran's nuclear progress but went a step ahead to say that they are only for civilian purpose and nobody should think of using force against Iran?

2. Is it because the group of nations that met in Iran decided that none of the member nations' soil/land will be utilised by a third party as a base for an attack against them?

3.Is it because Turkey turned deaf ears to the U.S's objections of an operation against the Kurdish Rebels(PKK) in Iraq which they say may destabilise Northern Iraq?
After all how can the U.S allow somebody else to destabilise Iraq when it has taken up that job 4 years ago and is still at it?

4.Is it because Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh preferred to put off the nuclear deal between India and U.S to save the Govt(congress) and the Chair(person)?

5.Is it because China strongly objected to the U.S.Govt inviting and awarding Dalai Lama?

6.Is it because of the phenominal ability of President Bush to singlehandedly annoy and irritate people all over the world with his foreign policy?

I dont know, but I am happy and I thank everyone there who is making me happy.

SCALING NEW HEIGHTS (OR) DIZZY HEIGHTS?

It has now become a regular feature, when you talk about Indian Stock market, to ask how much SENSEX or NIFTY go UP this week? 3 or 4 or 5 percent. Even the mature and knowledgable Market Analysts are afraid to talk about correction or they word it so carefully with lot of adjectives like - "Having said that", "I dont want to spoil the party","I expect a correction but I hope I am wrong" and all. The other day even the CNBC TV18 anchor Udayan Mukharjee cooly said he is so much used to saying that market is up 300 or 500 points that even on downdays he is still saying up only(by mistake)Anyway Market teaches people in its own way to rectify the mistakes sooner than later.
Many of us remember the famous K-10 stocks during 1999-2000 I.T boom when Ketan Parekh's name associated with a few stocks. Before that in 1992 any share which went up was associated with Harshad Mehta. Now in this bull market which started in April 2003 with Banking and Steel, then spread to Sugar and Retail and is now spreading like wild fire to R-10 stocks along with Power,Infra Structure and Real estate and construction shares.These R-10 stocks represent the Reliance group shares(both brothers) and then the Adlabs,Jai Corporation and anything else even if they have a slight association with reliance(like Nagar.Fert)
When the I.T boom went burst, whether due to excesses in U.S or India, most of the 2nd and 3rd level companies lost anywhere between 80-90% of the values and the better managed one lost only 50-60%. The same story is likely to be repeated in many cases now also and as usual the authorities - be it stock exchange or SEBI turn a blind eye to the manipulation.
Mukesh Ambani says that he is not bothered about his wealth and would like to provide employment and social uplifement but is spending 1bn U.S dollars - Rs.4000crs for his 27 story house for his family alone.
Sunil Bharti Mittal talks about transperancy and efficiency in Govt departments while starting a new enterprise but still we all know how difficult it is to get a birth or death certificate in a Corporation Office or register a land in a Sub-Registrar's office without paying money.
So while a small % of the people talk abt Demat a/cs and GDP growth, the vast majority of the Indian population is worried about water,sanitation and infrastructure.
While a select group of Industries thrive, a vast majority of them struggle or survive due to Govt.policy/subsidy like - Sugar,Fertiliser,Gas and Oil Marketing. A few other industries which were thriving on weak rupee for so many years are now paying the price by the appreciating rupee.
With so much negatives scattered all around(not to speak of early elections) I am firmly of the opinion that opportunity loss(notional) of not participating in the market is better than the actual loss to be incurred by heavyly investing at this level of 18400.
A sharp and Swift correction is surely on the way and let us wait and see how many of the market players say that it was a welcome correction and how much of the money
which is waiting in the sidelines is rushing in during that fall.Good Luck!!!!

SIGNS OF TIREDNESS

This week, the stock markets all over the world and particularly in India continued their upward march,albeit at slower pace. The volatality factor is back again in its full force, especially in emerging markets like Hongkong and India. These markets continue to ignore the negative factors which are like live mines which can explode anytime. They are only going by momentum and moneyflow with no relevence to the valuation. How long this momentum will continue nobody knows though every participant knows that it will loose stream at some point. It is like a rubber band which is streached endlessly and at some point it will snap.

WE have seen in the past that a particular sector leads the market up - in 2000 it was technology, in 2005-2006 it was sugar and so on. And at the peak of their valuations, convincing stories will be told to justify the valuation.When Wipro touched around Rs.40000/- for a Rs.10/- (adjusted to 1633 after bonus & split & now trading at 460), lack of enough floating stock was the only reason for the hot money which chased that share disregarding that the PE was around 600. When a Rs.1/- face value of Zee Tele touched Rs.1600/- the PE was around 900. And most of these shares corrected anywhere between 80 to 90% from their peak value, Wipro coming down to 170/- level and Zee tele touching around Rs.70/- before recovering to where they are now but still far below their peak rates after 7 years of blocking money.

The case of Sugar companies was almost similar though the PE valuations there did not go beyound 40-50. And still most of these shares have lost anywhere between 70-90% value.

With this bull phase triggered primarily by the Infrastructure,construction and real estate sectors, it will sure repeat the stories of I.T Bubble, Sugar Bubble and so on.While the companies project a growth rate of 25-30% annually, the stock prices have already discounted 2009-2010 earnings. With interest rates not likely to come down sharply so soon and the purchasing power of NRIs(one of the major contituents of demand side) getting reduced significantly by the appreciation of rupee, the first signs of a slowdown is already evident in many cities. This will only have a ripple effect in the coming quarters resulting in a sharp erosion in stock valuations.So watch out for this space carefully and lighten your exposure to this sectors which can be a big drag in your portfolio

STRONG RALLY

It has been a strong rally in most of the stock markets in the world ever since the U.S Fed cut interest rate by a surprise 0.50% as most market players expected only 0.025% cut.So the markets are in party mood forgetting the reasons for such a sharp cut and also irritating quite a few analysts in U.S. Because by its action, the Fed supported the (undue) risk takers and penalised the safe players. The crash of the dollar has begun and nobody can say now how steep it can fall.This is going to push the world's biggest economy into RESSESSION and put so many other economies in the world in jeopardy.
The Indian stock market also had its share of fun as SENSEX moved from 15660 to 17290 in just 8 trading sessions.Shares of the AMBANI brothers(mukesh & anil) were bought(or pushed up) as if there is no tomorrow. Already media have started circulating reports that their combined worth is close to 95 billion Dollars & making them the richest in the world, far outstripping Carlos Slim of Maxico who recently replaced Bill Gates at the No.1 spot.
The FIIs in India have invested nearly 4BLN dollars in Spetember alone and people say that is the reason for this steep rise. I always wonder that it is chicken & egg story in this case also. In the past whenever market peaked(check 1998 & 2000 figures) FIIs always pumped in the maximum and our Mutual funds smartly sold or atleast turned defensive. I am always a believer of the theory that OPPORTUNITY LAST IS BETTER THAN MONEY LOST, though many may not agree with me. So while value investing in individual companies can go on irrespective of the Index levels, playing momentum now seems highly riskly.I have seen this kind of euphoria quite a few times in the past and have been reasonably right in predicting the reversal, sometimes pretty early also. Anyway time will tell soon and till then I am enjoying the party by WATCHING FROM THE SIDELINES. BYE,BYE

சவுதிக்கு நான் வந்த 15 மாதத்தில் முதல் முறையாக ஒரு ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை லீவு. 23rd Sept - Saudi National Day.இந்தியா, சவுதி இரண்டு ஸ்டாக் மார்கெட்டும் இல்லாததால் பூரண விடுமுறை.

காலையில் மோர்குழம்பு(இருக்கவே இருக்கு Litho's ReadyMix) உருளை கறி சமைத்துவிட்டு விசாகா Hariன்(தமிழில் இன்னும் "HA" தெரியவில்லை தலைவீ - Help pl?)சுந்தர காண்டம் DVDல் பார்த்தேன். அருமையான சொற்பொழிவு.அருமையான பாட்டு. 18 அல்லது 27 நாள் பாராயணம் பண்ணாமல் 125 நிமிடங்களில் அந்த பயனை அடைந்தேன். அதுவும் அசோகவனத்தில் ராவணன் சீதையிடம் கடுமையாக பேசி இன்னும் 2 மாதம் தருகிறேன், அதற்குள் உன் மனதை மாற்றிக்கொள், ராமர் எனக்கு எந்த விதத்திலும் இணையானவர் அல்ல என்று கூறுகிரான். அப்பொழுது சீதை ஒரு புல்லை அவர்கள் இருவரிடையில் போட்டு சில விஷயங்கள் சொல்லுகிறாள். அந்த இடத்தில் திருமதி விசாகா Hari என் மனதை மிகவும் நெகிழ வைத்து விட்டார். ராமர் இருந்ததாக நம்புவோர்க்கு தானே அதன் அருமை தெரியும்.

மதியம் அருமையான் தூக்கம். பிறகு மாலை காட்சி - மருதமலை - ஆக்க்ஷன் கிங் அர்ஜுன் படம் - விமர்சனம் கீழே.

தந்தையின் ஆசைப்படி போலீஸ் வேலயில் சேர்ந்து ஒரு ஊருக்கு செல்கிறார் அர்ஜுன். 80% ஒரு ஜாதியினரும் 20% மற்றவரும் உள்ள இந்த தொகுதியை ரிஸர்வுட் தொகுதியாக தேர்தல் ஆணையம் அறிவித்ததால், 16 வருஷமாக இங்கு தேர்தல் நடத்த விடாமல் ஒருவன் தடுக்கிறான். அவனுடைய அட்டகாசத்தை தேர்தல் அதிகாரியின் உதவியோடு ஒரு முடிவுக்கு கொண்டு வருகிறார் அர்ஜுன். இதுதான் கதை. ரொம்ப சொதப்பாமல் நேராக கதையை சொல்லும் விதம் ஓகே. ஆனால் வழக்கம் போல எங்கே தவறு நடந்தாலும் அங்கு அர்ஜுன் வருவது கொஞ்ஜம் ஓவர். வடிவேலு காமெடி தாங்கலை. நல்ல வேளை அவருடைய சில அற்பத்தனமான வேலைகளை வசனத்திலேயே முடித்துவிட்டார்கள். காட்சியாக காண்பிக்காதது நாம் செய்த புண்ணியம். வில்லனின் 2 தம்பிகளையும் அர்ஜுன் தீர்த்துகட்டும் யுக்தி புதியது. பாராட்டலாம்.

As the stock markets around the world are waiting with bated breath for the FED meeting on Sept 18th for the Interest rate cut, the credit crunch took its 1st toll in U.K as Mortgage Lending bank -NORTHERN ROCK - ran into difficulties. No sooner than the news that it has taken a short term loan from Bank of England to overcome its temporary(as what it claims) financial crisis on Thrusday, its share price fell 32% on Friday and more than 1 billion Euros were withdrawn from the Savings a/cs in 2 days. In fact out of its total borrowings, only 25% accounts for deposits and the balance 75% is borrowings from money markets. Now it is this business model/policy which has led this bank into trouble as short term rotation funds stopped rotating as in the past.This once again reconfirms the most famous saying in money market

" YOUR MONEY IS SAFE IN THE BANK ONLY AS LONG AS YOU DONT WITHDRAW IT "

If everybody wants to withdraw their money,that too at the same time, then no bank, however sound it may be, is safe. It has happened in the banking history in the past under different circumstances and this time it is happening due to excessive, cheap and substandard lending in housing sector.

Now the debate in stock markets worldover is How much the U.S.fed will cut interest rate - quarter or half percent. Fed is caught is a tricky situation. The higher the cut the better for stock market but bad for the U.S.Dollar and vice versa.
In My Opinion, any rally in Stock markets will be temporary and ultimately they have to deal with the negatives and reprice themselves to factor in the slowdown in Economy and Corporate Growth.

Personally I am more bullish in Gold and Rupee than stock market though stock picking will be an ongoing exercise. GOOD LUCK.

CAN PROPERTY PRICES FALL?

There is a general myth that property prices can not fall and can only keep going up.
There are various reasons given for this. "Everybody wants a place to live", "Land is always in short supply as it can not be produced", "Inflation will push up the prices constantly". There are so many similar arguments and almost all of them will be so convincing to believe that the property prices,particularly Living Homes, will rise forever.But history reminds us that there have been enough crashes in property prices in the last 200 years. On four different occassions in U.S - during the 1830s,
1880s,1920s and 1980s. It is also a strange coincidence that it has happened almost once in every 50years in U.S. Not only in America, it has happened in other countries also. In 1773 there was a crash in property values in Britain, in 1838 in France, in 1870 in Germany and again in 1890 in Britain.In his paper"Urban land and Building Prices" Prof.E.A.Vallis puts the average price of residential land in Britain in 1899 at 900 Pounds an acre.By 1904 the price had fallen to 130 Pounds an acre, a fall of 85% in 5 years.
Now let us come to the 1920s property boom and bust in Florida,Miami, U.S. After World War-1, America, like many other countries was in the grip of recession, particularly in 1919-1921.But with the boom in Automobiles in 1920s and the completion of Dixie Highway,an increasing number of americans to fulfill their endless desire for leisure moved towards Florida.Rich soil and good climate made Florida extremely attractive to citrus fruit growers who moved in and bought large tracts of land for farming, which was costing only a few dollars an acre.Quickly developers saw a growing need for vacational and residential homes. The chain of events pushed up the property prices quite sharply that people started speculating by booking houses with a meagre 10% down payment with no intention to pay the 1st instalment of 25% in 30 days time but will look to sell it at profit before that.This speculation fire started in 1924 was ablaze by mid 1925 and stories of extravagant profits started floating around further inflating the price. There was a plot in the city which a poor woman bought for 25 dollars in 1896 which she sold for 150,000 dollars in1925. The theory of greater fool came into play as everybody is looking for the somebody to pay a higher price for his plot or piece of land. According to state cencus, the population of Miami increased from 30000 in 1920 to 75000 in 1925 and nearly 25000 of them were REAL ESTATE AGENTS - 1/3rd of the population. Eye catching hoardings with sky scappers were kept everywhere projecting Friendly sun,Gracious Rain and Soothing Tropical Wind.
By the end of 1925 there was a slight pause in the upward momentum in prices but the Mayors of Miami,Miami beach and Coral Gables assured that it is only temporary or a technical correction(as Finance minister or Exchange Regulators often say during stock market fall)By mid 1926 the anticipated interest from America's wealthiest Bussinessmen and Sportsmen was not coming through. Finally the real hit came on 18th September 1926 when 2 harricanes hit the avenues of Miami streets. The soothing tropical winds had a great start from West indies and gathered speed to toss big steam yachts, trees,lumber,pipes,tiles and even small cars and sent them crashing into the houses. The terrible wind left 400 dead,6300 injured and nearly 50000 homeless. This lead to defaults in all the margin payment trasactions and banks quickly seized the properties to recover whatever they can.Still the bank failures came thick and fast in1928 and 1929. In those 2 years, deficits from the failing Florida banks were higher than those of any other state in America. A person who visited Miami in 1929 described like this: It was looking like a Ghost town with most of the real estate agents office closed and showing signs of dilapitation, the exotic street name boards surrounded with bushes.
Conventional wisdom has it that residential property values always rise in the long run. But sometimes the run can be so long that most of us are dead by that time. It took 40 years for the Florida Property prices to return to the peak values of 1925 notwithstanding the inflation.

STABLE BUT EDGY

It has been yet another week of sideways and edgy movement for the world stock markets with India performing much better than many others. Sensex touched 15700 (within the striking distance of all time high of 15868) but then reversed to close at 15590 - a respectable 1.8% weekly gain. It is little surprising that market is shrugging off a major negative news in the world's biggest market(U.S) but I am sure the fundamendals will ultimately catch up soon.
Now the market is pinning its hopes of a interest rate cut by the FED ON sEPT 18TH to boost the indices but is comfortably ignoring the compulsions leading to such a cut. And the more the rate cut - the greater is going to be the fall of U.S.Dollar which will further affect U.S.Economy and corporate earnings. So the Fed is now caught in a situation from which it can neither go up or down.
At one point, not many people accepted the very fact that housing price can fall at all and then came a stage when many said that a fall in housing prices will not affect the economy. Now still a lot of them are saying that it may not be that bad to send the economy into a recession. It is clear signs of hoping against hope and refusing to accept the realities of the situation.
After all, the opinions of experts in Stock and Financial markets, Mark Faber(who has predited a 30% correction in most of the emerging markets from their tops) and Allen Greenspan,Former Fed Chaiman(who has warned that the current crisis is similar to 1987 and 1997 crisis) can not be taken that lightly.

GOOD RELIEF RALLY

With international markets calming a bit and Indian political strom temporarily downgraded from "Harricane" category to "Strong winds", markets had a good rally of 5-7% for the week. Is it calm before strom in the political front in India? No and Yes. No political party wants to face elections now as none of them are confident of retaining the present number of seats leave alone increasing it. So it becomes a murkier picture about the formation of the next Govt whether it happens in 6 months or 1 year. And one thing which market hates is UNCERTAINITY.

As the markets recovered, the traditional BULLS again started forecasting SENSEX to touch 20000 by 2010 and 25000 by 2020. Unfortunately the gulliable investors are attracted only by the round figure and not by logics.If the market has to go to 20000 by 2010 it is 5000points in 3 yrs - a moderate growth of 11% per annum. But 25000 by 2020 is 10000points in 13 yrs - a meagre 5.25% per annum - far less than even bank interest. Unfortunately the investor looks only at the big number in SENSEX and not the period he has to stay invested. And 85% of them will lose patience or panic when market crashes a few times during this long period and sell their stocks and ultimately come to any of the conclusions - 1.stock market is not their cup of tea, 2. It is only Gambling and so you cant make money and 3.Most of the brokers only take care of themselves and not the clients.

In my post dated 14th August, I had mentioned about the natural fallout of market peak out - that is the fall in IPOs and their premiums and listing prices. The August IPO figures confirm this. The amount reaised in August 2007 is Rs.648.78Crs a drop of 82% from the July figures of Rs.3,603Crs. And shares of Purvankara and KKR Mills are already trading at a discount of 10-15% to their issue price. As if this is not enough, an IT company -IT People(India) withdrew its Follow up issue fearing undersubscription resulting in share price plunging 10%

The actions and statements by Fed Chairman and President Bush only reconfirms the underlying and unexposed huge negatives in the U.S financial markets. Traditionally the problems of financial markets never comes as a sudden and massive heart attack but as many mild tremors for a long time before the massive earthquake occurs.

OUT OF I.C.U BUT NOT OUT OF DANGER

The emergency measures taken by the U.S.Fed coupled with the cooling off of the heat between the Congress and Left parties in India provided the necessary breather to the stock markets in India. It closed the week in the green for the 1st time in 4 weeks. So far so good. But the uncertainity still prevails and in my opinion this mild uptrend provides an excellent opportunity to exit the fundamentally weak and momentum shares that one might have bought recently even at losses. The risks relating to the credit crunch in the global and emerging markets and the uneasy calm prevailing in the political front continue to linger and will surface now and then to shake the confidence of the market and thereby arrest any major upmove.

On top of all these, the U.S.Fed made a surprise and riskier move of removing the cap(Upper limit) of 2 top banks(Citi bank and Bank of America)with respect to the funds they can lend to their Broking Subsidairies. This allows both these banks to lend upto 25Billon Dollars to their broking arms. Does it mean that the Fed already knows some problem or crisis that the market does not know? Should the SEC - Securities Exchange Commission,USA(like our SEBI)take note of this and tighten screws?

The Charts clearly indicate tiredness for the time being and with more & more sectors getting affected directly or indirectly leading to slow down, it is better to be with the KING - THE CASH - That is if you dont want to loose but if you want to make money - SELL SHORT AT THE RIGHT PRICES OR GO TO THE RIGHT PERSON FOR DOING SO - BEST OF LUCK

FROM EXCESS TO SHORTAGE

What a U-turn market has taken in the last 3-4 weeks when we were talking about excess liquidity pushing the market to newer heights and India is slowly decoupling from the Global market and all. All it took was just a needle tip to poke the artificial bubble to loose all the stream.

No body raised their Eyebrows when market went up by 500 points a day, No regulator talked about the orderly conduct of the markets when stocks moved up 50% to 100% in a short period of time or an IPO listing at huge premium, No Big Operators(Individual or Institutional)
warned about excess valuation and an impeeding correction. But when the inevitable happened the media becomes sad, the investors become angry that the Regulator has not taken steps to arrest the crash and also blame the brokers for becoming strict with their margins and positions which they were allowing freely till last month. When you enjoy the fruits of global inflow of money you have to take the bitter pills also when that money exits quickly. Here are some situations for which the stock prices moved up rapidly till last month.

1. A Company gets an big order to execute a project spaning over 3 yrs.
2. A Company raises money from foreign market for its working capital or paying off another loan or for its expansion.
3. A Company takes overs or merely starts a discussion for a takeover of another company.
4. A Company decides to hive off one of its divisions - whether loss or profit making.

Even after knowing that the company will take 3 yrs to complete the project and realise its profits, the market or its manipulators discount that 3 yrs profit in the share price within a few days. Similarly when a Company sells its division or itself to another company both the seller and buyer companys' share prices goes up(it is supposed to be win-win situation for both, you know)

Now coming back to U.S market, instead of allowing it to correct on its own weight and remove the excesses from the system, the U.S.Fed indirectly supported the market by reducing the discount rate(Lending rate by Fed to Banks) by 1/2 a percent and urging them to take the money liberally. This liberal lending will 0nly help the system to support the losses for the time being. This has vastly increased the chances of Interest rate cut in U.S which will further put pressure on U.S.Dollars.

Now coming to Indian markets, We all know how the excesses of I.T, Communication & Entertainment(the famous or ill famous ICE sector shares) MELTED in 2000-2001.

We also know how much was talked about Sugar companies minting money in their Ethenol projects a year back and now most of them reporting losses and trading at 1 to 2 yr lows.

Now we are seeing the Automobile companies giving deep discounts to push sales and already the Biggest of them all - Maruti saying that it is difficult to maintain last years growth. And remember that automobile (commercial or passenger) sector slowdown is the first indication of a slowing economy as reduction in movement of goods and people leads to a chain of slowdowns in travel & tourism, lesser consumption of raw materials leading to lower production and so on and so forth.

To top it all, if U.S.Fed cuts its interest rate leading to a crash in the U.S Dollar,
Rupee will appreciate further resulting in margin contraction for our I.T companies and other exportors. With I.T(which contributes more than 50% to our economy) taking a hit, manufacturing sector slowing down and Agriculture contributing a mere 2% we are surely in for some tough times and the forecasts of 9% growth in GDP may soon be revised down to 7.50 to 7.80%

This revision in GDP growth target and slowdown in economy will make the market to correct further and I will not be surprised it SENSEX comes down to 12500-12800 range in the next 3 to 6 months.

About 10 days back when I wrote that Sensex has temporarily peaked at 15868 and can correct upto 14200 in the next 4-6 weeks, I got so many mails questioning my analysis and stamping me as a pessimist or person with bearish mentality(In stock market, a bear is one who thinks that prices will come down as against a bull who thinks prices will go up) The market was all over the place in these 10days with clear signs of lack of conviction as shown by the moneyflow and turnover. And the mother of all markets, the U.S stock market is nowhere near recovery but on the other hand slipping at every negative news. And knowing the force of the market, the infusion of 30-40billion dollars is not going to stem the slide. But as always in the past, people start buying whenever there is a sharp dip in the market either expecting a bounceback or thinking it is cheap(relatively) to what it was 3-4 weeks back.
The problem with most of the investors is that they dont make investments as investments.They buy because they think it is cheap to buy without looking that the prices have already factored in all the positives and the factors that where pushing the prices up for the last 4 yrs no longer exist to warrant an investment now. There can be exceptions but I am talking of a broader scenario.
Since most of the investors & traders have seen only an uptrend last 3-4 yrs without any meaningful correction (except for one in May-June2006) their mindset is only to buy on dips and keep buying as market falls hoping for the recovery. This is how they bought Software stocks in 2000-2001 and Sugar stocks in the last 1 year. In this process lot of fresh money will get blocked in the form of shares as human mind will not react quickly to book losses. This will ultimately lead to lesser interest & premium in new issues(IPOs) and lesser interest in secondary markets also.
While the raise in stock prices are slow and laboured the fall is always quick and rapid wiping several months profits in no time and also it is the Golden rule that "The Higher it goes the Greater is the fall"
While I am pretty much convinced that 14200 will be seen in the next 4 weeks I shall revise my target as and when it happens. For the time being my advise is to sell at every rise and stay on cash and resist the temptation of buying thinking that the prices are cheap. If you have not invested before but sitting on cash looking for the right opportunities, just stay away and watch the fun for the time being.

It has been a volatile week in stock market worldover. Even though markets were scaling new highs regularly, over the past 3-4 months enough indications were there to suggest that the rise is purely driven by liquidity and valuations are getting streched particularly in construction and infrastructure sectors. Everytime when market corrects we try to find or attach a reason for it - be it yen carry trade, be it Chinese market controls and now the sub-prime mortgage loans and housing loans failing in U.S. For the past 18 months U.S housing market is in all sort of problems with supply outstripping demand. Now with raising interest rates the loans which have to be rolled over in this quarter alone stands at 250 billion dollars. So with higher EMIs more foreclosures and defaults leading to more supply of houses for sale. On the other hand it will also reduce the new houses under construction or to be constructed leading to loss of jobs, idle investments leading to more corporate losses. So a vicious circle is on and will only gather momentum as we progress.

How far this will affect Global liquidity and moneyflows to emerging markets like India is to be seen over the next 4 to 6 weeks. Until then it is better to wait & watch instead of buying now thinking it is cheaper by 3-5 from the top.

As for as Indian market index SENSEX goes, we have just started the 1st phase of correction after touching an all time high of 15868, and I feel the correction can easily take it upto 14200 levels. My advice is to use any rally to sell & book profits and stay on cash for atleast 4-6 weeks

ஓரு மாத லீவு போனதே தெரியல்லை. பல முக்கிய வேலைகள் - உறவினர்கள் மற்றும் நண்பர்கள் வீட்டில் சாப்பிடுவது, சவுதியின் ஒரு வருட விரதத்தை சரிபடுத்த கிளப் கிளப்பாக செல்வது என்று நேரமே போதவில்லை போங்கள். இதற்கெல்லாம் நடுவில் ஒரு பூணல் கல்யாணம், ஒரு பிறந்த நாள் பார்ட்டி வேறு. அதில் ஒரு சௌகரியம் நிறைய உறவினர்களை ஒரே இடத்தில் பார்த்து வேலையை முடிக்கலாம். நேரம் மிச்சம்.
3 நாட்கள் ஆன்மீக பயணம்.அண்ணா - மன்னி,அக்கா,மாமாவுடன் நானும் மனைவியும் டொயோடா இன்னோவா(toyota Innova) வேனில்.வெள்ளிக்கிழமை காலை மணி 7 எல்லோரையும் ஏற்றிக்கொண்டு புறப்பட்டோம். எப்பொழுதும் போல திண்டிவனம் தாண்டி கணேஷ் பவனில் இட்லி,வடை,பொங்கலுடன் காபி.சரி,சரி முதலில் பார்த்த கோயில்களை எழுதி விடுகிறேன்.
சமயபுரம் - லால்குடி - திருவரங்கம் - திருச்சி - தஞ்ஜாவூர் - திருச்சேரை - உப்பிலியப்பன் கோவில் - நாச்சியார் கோவில் - திரு நாகேஸ்வரம் - வைதீஸ்வரன் கோவில்(குல தெய்வம்) - சீர்காழி எல்லாம் பார்த்து விட்டு கடைசியாக சிதம்பரம் நடராஜர் கோவில்.அண்ணாவின் நண்பன் மூலமாக அருமையான தரிசனம்

வித்தியாசமாக ஒரு பெட்(PET) வைத்துக்கொள்ள விரும்பிய ஒரு இளைஞன் ஒரு பெட் ஷாப்புக்கு போனான். வெகு நேரம் சுற்றிவிட்டு ஒரு மரவட்டையை(CENTIPEDE) பார்த்தான். கடைக்காரரிடம் இதன் ஸ்பெஷல் என்ன என்று கேட்க அவர் அது பேசும் மரவட்டை என்று சொன்னார். ஆச்சர்யமாய் பார்த்த அவன் அதை வாங்கி கொண்டு வீட்டுக்கு வந்து அழகாக ஒரு பெட்டியில் வைத்தான். முதல் நாள் எதுவும் பேசவில்லை. இரண்டாவது நாள் சர்ச்சுக்கு கிளம்பும்போது அதை பார்த்து "சர்ச்சுக்கு போய் ப்ரார்த்தனை செய்துவிட்டு வரலாமா" என்று கேட்டான். மரவட்டை எந்த பதிலும் கூறவில்லை. மீண்டும் ஒரு முறை கேட்டான். அப்பொழுதும் பதில் இல்லை. பொறுமையிழந்த அவன் மரவட்டை இருந்த பெட்டியின் மூடியை திறந்து சத்தமாக மூன்றாவது முறை கேட்டான். அப்பொழுது அந்த மரவட்டை சொல்லியது " நீ முதல் தடவை கேட்டபோதே காதில் விழுந்தது. அதான் ஷூ போட்டு கொண்டிருக்கிறேன், வெயிட் பண்ணு வரேன்"

எஸ்.பி.பி எம்ஜிஆருக்கு பாடியது எப்படி

பாடல் வரிகள் எஸ்.பி.பிக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்டன.ஜெய்ப்பூரில் ஷூட்டிங் நடத்த அனுமதியும் பெற்றாகிவிட்டது. இந்த நேரத்தில்தான் எஸ்.பி.பி சற்றும் எதிர்பாராமல் நோய்வாய்பட்டு ரிகர்சலின் போது சரியாக பாட முடியவில்லை.மனம் நொந்தபடி வீட்டுக்கு சென்ற எஸ்.பி.பின் உடல் நிலை மேலும் மோசமாகியது.அடுத்த நாள் ரெகார்டிங் போக வந்த கார் ட்ரைவரிடம் தன்னால் பாட இயலாது என்று சொல்லி திருப்பி அனுப்பிவிட்டார் எஸ்.பி.பி. கிட்டத்தட்ட ஒரு மாத காலம் போனது. தன் விதியை எண்ணி நொந்த எஸ்.பி.பி இன்னேரம் டி.எம்.யெஸ் பாடி ஜெய்ப்பூரில் படமாக்கப்பட்டு இருக்கும் என்று எண்ணினார். அப்போது அவரது ஒரே நம்பிக்கை மீண்டும் ஒரு முறை எம்.ஜி.ஆர் கூப்பிடுவார் என்பதுதான்.

திடீரென்று ஒரு நாள் மீண்டும் எம்.ஜி.ஆர் கம்பெனி கார் எஸ்.பி.பி வீட்டுக்கு வந்தது. வந்த ப்ரொடக்க்ஷன் அஸிஸ்டென்ட் கேட்டார் - நீங்கள் உடல் நலம் தேறி விட்டீர்களா? ஆயிரம் நிலவே வா பாட்டு பாட வரமுடியுமா? என்று கேட்டார்.இன்னும் உடல் முழுதாக தேறவில்லையெனினும் இந்த முறை வாய்ப்பை அவர் விடுவதாக இல்லை. சரி வருகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி தன் தந்தையுடன் காரில் ஏறினார். அவர் ஆச்சர்ரியத்தை புரிந்து கொண்டு வந்தவர் சொன்னார் - அந்த பாடல் இன்னும் ஷூட்டிங் செய்யப்படவில்லை ஏனென்றால் பாடலை எஸ்.பி.பிதான் பாடவேண்டும் என்று எம்.ஜி.ஆர் சொல்லி விட்டார் என்று.
ஒரு பக்கம் அளவு கடந்த சந்தோஷம். ஒரு பக்கம் உடல் சோர்வு. 11 டேக்குகளுக்கு பிறகு கே.வி.மகாதேவன் பாடலை ஒகே செய்தார். பாடலைப்பாடிய உற்சாகத்துடனும் உடல் சோர்வுடனும் இருந்த எஸ்.பி.பி தைரியத்தை வரவழித்து கொண்டு எம்.ஜி.ஆரை கேட்டார் ஏன் இவ்வுளவு நாள் பொறுத்திருந்தீர்கள் என்று. அதற்கு எம்.ஜி.ஆர் சொன்னாராம் - தம்பி முதல் முதலாக நீ தமிழில் பாடுகிறாய். அதுவும் எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கு பாடுகிறேன் என்று உறவினர்கள் மற்றும் நண்பர்களிடம் சொல்லியிருப்பாய். மேலும் முதல் பாடலிலேயே உன்னை மாற்றினால் உன் எதிர்காலமே பாதிக்கப்படும் நீ சரியாக பாடவில்லை அதனால்தன் எம்.ஜி.ஆர் மாற்றிவிட்டார் என்று ஒரு பேச்சு நிலவும் அதனால்தான் நான் காத்திருந்தேன் என்று. நன்றி சொல்ல முடியாமல் நா தழுதழுக்க கண்கள் குளமடைய திகைத்து நின்ற எஸ்.பி.பிக்கு கை குடுத்து வாழ்த்திவிட்டு போனார் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். இதனால் இன்றும் எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் உதவி செய்யும் குணத்தை எஸ்.பி.பி மறக்காமல் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.

ஆனால் அவர் பாடிய முதல் தமிழ் பாடல் "ஆயிரம் நிலவே வா" வாக இருந்தாலும் அவர் பாடி முதலில் வெளி வந்த படம் "பால்குடம்" பாடல் "மல்லிகை பூ வாங்கி வந்தேன் புன்னகையின் நினைவாக" இந்த படம் 14-01-1969 அன்று பொங்கல் ரிலீஸ்ஸாக வெளியானது. இசை அமைப்பாளர் எம்.ஸ்.வீ அவர்கள்.
இரெண்டாவது படம் 'குழந்தை உள்ளம்" பாடல் "முத்து சிப்பிக்குள்ளே ஒரு பூவண்டு" இசை அமைப்பாளர் - எஸ்.பி.பியை தெலுங்கில் அறிமுகப்படுத்திய திரு.கோதண்டபாணி அவர்கள்.
மூன்றாவது படம்தான் அடிமைப்பெண் இது 01-05- 1969 ரிலீஸ்ஸானது. நான்காவது பாடல் 'இயற்கை என்னும் இளைய கன்னி ஏங்குகிறாள் துணையை எண்ணி' - படம் சாந்தி நிலையம்.
ஐந்தாவது பாடல் "பவுர்ணமி நிலவில் பனி விழும் நிலவில் கடற்கரை மணலில் குளிப்போமா" படம் கன்னிப்பெண்.

SPB எம்ஜிஆருக்கு பாடியது எப்படி -

"அடிமைப்பெண்" - எம்ஜிஆர் பெரும் எதிர்ப்பார்ப்புடன் 1966இல் ஆரம்பித்த படம். மிகப்பெரிய செலவில் ராஜஸ்தான் அரண்மனைகளில் எடுக்கப்பட்டது. முதலில் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்ட நடிக நடிகையர் - சரோஜாதேவி,கே.ஆர்.விஜயா, ஜெயலலிதா ரத்னா நம்பியார் மற்றும் பலர். சூட்டிங் ஆரம்பித்து பத்திரிகைகளில் பெரும் பரபரப்புடன் சில படங்களும் வெளி வரத்துவங்கின. அப்பொதுதான் ஒன்றன்பின் ஒன்றாக சில நிகழ்ச்சிகள் நடந்தன.

ஒரு நாள் சூட்டிங் பொழுது நடிகை ரத்னா குதிரையில் இருந்து கீழே விழுந்து படுகாயமுற்றார்.இந்த சம்பவத்தால் மனம் சோர்வுடன் சூட்டிஙை சில நாட்கள் தள்ளி வைத்தார் எம்ஜிஆர்

அப்பொழுது தமிழ் நாடு எலெக்க்ஷன் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டு
எம்ஜிஆர் பறங்கி மலையில் இருந்து போடியிடுவதாக முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டதால் மீண்டும் படப்பிடிப்பு ஒத்தி வைக்கப்பட்டது

அப்பொழுதுதான் எம்ஜிஆர் வாழ்வில் மீண்டும் ஒரு எதிர்பாராத சம்பவம். 12th January 1967 அன்று எம்.ஆர்.ராதா எம்ஜிஆரை சுட்டார். கழுத்தில் புல்லட் குண்டுடன் உயிர் தப்பினார் எம்ஜிஆர். சென்னை ராயபேட்டை மருத்துவ மனையில் சிகிச்சை பெற்றார். இதனிடையே சரோஜாதேவிக்கு திருமணம் ஆயிற்று. இந்த சம்பவங்களினால் படப்பிடிப்பு முற்றிலுமாக நிறுத்தப்பட்டது.

1968இல் மீண்டும் அடிமைப்பெண் ஆரம்பிக்கபட்டபோது பல மாற்றங்கள்.முதலில் எம்ஜிஆரே டைரக்ட் செய்வதாக இருந்தது இப்பொது கே.ஷங்கர்(இது பழய ஷங்கருங்கோ) ஜெயலலிதா இரட்டை வேடங்களில் கதா நாயகியாக(ஜீவா & பவளவல்லி) நடிக்க எம்ஜிஆர் பிக்சர்ஸ் தயாரிக்க அடிமைப்பெண் 1st may 1969இல் வெளியானது.

இசை அமைப்பாளர் கே.வி.மகாதேவன் அவர்கள் அருமையாக 6 பாடல்கள் தந்தார். அதில் ஒன்றுதான் ஆயிரம் நிலவே வா. எஸ்.பி.பி 1966இல் தெலுங்கு படத்தில் பாட ஆரம்பித்தார். அந்த பட இசை அமைப்பாளர் கோதண்டபாணி அவர்கள் எஸ்.பி.பின் குரலால் ஈர்க்கப்பட்டு தானே அவரை பல இசை அமைப்பாளர்களிடம் அழைத்துச்சென்று அறிமுகம் செய்துவைத்தார்.

ஒரு நாள் ஒரு ஸ்டுடியோவில் உள்ள ரெக்கார்டிங் தியெட்டரில் எஸ்.பி.பி ஒரு தெலுங்கு படத்திற்க்காக பாடிக்கொண்டிருந்தார். அது குடியிருந்த கோயில் படத்தின் தெலுங்கு டப்பிங்.அப்பொழுது அந்த ஸ்டூடியோ வந்த எம்.ஜி.ஆரை அந்த குரல் வசப்படுத்த தன் உதவியாளரை அனுப்பி பாடுபவர் யார் என்று விசாரித்தாராம்.பின்னர் கே.வி.மகாதேவனிடமும் சொல்லி இந்த படத்தில் அந்த பையனுக்கு 1 பாடல் கொடுங்கள் என்றார்.

இந்த விஷயம் எஸ்.பி.பிக்கு தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டவுடன் அவர் மகிழ்ச்சிக்கு எல்லை இல்லை.தமிழ் சினிமாவில் முதல் பாட்டு - அதுவும் எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கு அதுவும் சுசீலாவோடு.எந்த புது பாடகனுக்குத்தான் மகிழ்ச்சி இருக்காது. அப்பொழுதுதான் விதி அவர் வாழ்க்கையில் சிறிது விளையாடியது

என்ன ஆச்சு? அவர்தான் பாடினாரே என்று கேக்காதீங்க? ஒரு நாள் வெய்ட் பண்ணுங்க?சௌதியிலே நாளைக்கு ஆபீஸ் லீவுதான். நாளைக்கு சொல்லறேன்

எதுக்கு இதெல்லாம் சொல்லறேன்னா நண்பர் கார்த்திகேயன் சொன்னது மாதிரி நேற்று இன்று நாளை படத்திற்க்கு முன்பே எஸ்.பி.பி இரண்டு அல்ல பல பாடல்களை பாடியுள்ளார்

Happy Investing

After losing steadily for the past 3 months, the U.S dollar recovered on friday against all major currencies. Being an Indian, let me give my view with reference to the Indian Rupee Vs U.S.Dollar. The INR gained from a steady 44 range to reach 40.25 a week back in the last 3 months but has lost since then to close around 41 on saturday. While we may have a confirmation of this pullback next week, the technical indicators are suggesting a rally upto 42 - 42.50 in the next month or so. That should be a relief to all NRIs always wanting an attractive conversion rate(especially during the week when we get our salary)
Regarding stock market, it has been a volatile week with Chinese market doing most of the demage. I had mentioned in my last post on this saying the Chinese Stock exchange Authorities are not comfortable to see too much money flowing into the already overheated stock market.
They announced some drastic taxation measures on stock market gains which lead to the 2nd biggest fall in 1 day(8.8%) Most of the world markets followed suit but for a mild recovery by the U.S.market on friday.
As for as Indian market is concerned, while the long term bull trend is still in tact, caution, risk awarness and stock picking are the buzzwords.

முதலில் மாறின ஒரு பாடல்

1943 இல் ஆல் டயம் சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் MKT நடித்த சிவகவி படம் வெளிவந்தது. அதில் அருமையாக 6 பாடல்கள். அவற்றில் ஒன்று "வதனமே சந்திர பிம்பமோ" . பாடல் எழுதி ஒலிப்பதிவு செய்யும் முன்பு எழுதப்பட்ட வார்த்தை "முகமது சந்திர பிம்பமோ". அப்பொழுதுதான் யாரொ ஒருவர் தயாரிப்பாளரிடமும் பாடலாசிரியரிடமும் சொன்னாராம் - முகமது என்றால் இஸ்லாமியர்களை குறிக்கும் என்று. பிறகுதான் அந்த வார்த்தையை வதனமே என்று மாற்றினார்கள்.
